What Is TMJ?

TMJ stands for “temporomandibular joint.” It is the jaw joint where the lower jaw attaches to the skull. When the jaw joint isn’t working properly, problems can arise, thus resulting in TMJ disorder or TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder).

“This helps identify where and what is necessary to restore an equal distribution of bite pressure,” explains Dr. Bodensteiner. Since the bite timing pressure and movement are captured, we can thus produce a personalized nighttime splint or night mouthguard to correct the TMJ problem.
